If you have had children, have had post natal complications, are pregnant, thinking of pregnancy, have lower back pain, sciatica, encounter incontinence, want to gain core strength, or just want to increase awareness of your pelvic floor, then this class is for you.

Over the course of our 7 weeks, we will seek release, connection, and relaxation, and bring awareness to this part of our bodies. We will begin with plenty of discussion and conversation as this can be a sensitive area that we may never have tapped into before. Then we will move into a simple and basic movement flow focusing on leading from our pelvic floor. The last part of the class will involve gentle stretching, releasing, and relaxation techniques to dive further into sensation and awareness. As we progress together, we may explore some stronger Pilates based exercises and use massage balls to help release the legs and pelvis. Each class will finish off with the deep, relaxing guided “yogic sleep” called yoga nidra. Together we will find a source for our own inherent power, enabling us to move more fluidly and solidly in our day-to-day lives.

This class is appropriate for all levels.

Teaching as Storytelling: Secrets of Sequencing Yoga Classes (July 2017) CAD$131.25Purchase required to enroll

Sequencing is the secret magic of a yoga class. It’s the reason your students leave feeling great...or not. Well, it’s not magic! Just as a story needs not only words but also grammar to make sense, a yoga class has an underlying logic that can help us move our students in a specific direction both physically and energetically.

This class is for yoga teachers who want to understand not only what the yoga postures are, but why and how to organize them in a sequence. It will help you create classes creatively and safely and with minimal prep. Once you know why, when, and how certain postures should go together, you’ll never need to memorize a sequence again! We will also discuss how sequencing can support the theme that you are trying to offer to your students, how to clarify your intentions in class, and gain confidence in who you are as a yoga teacher.

Julie Peters, MA, E-RYT 500, has been practising yoga for over 20 years. For the past seven years, she has been running Ocean and Crow Yoga studio, and has gone through many shifts and changes in her own career. She has also seen many yoga teachers come through the studio struggling through the sometimes difficult life of teaching yoga, and has learned a lot about what works, what doesn’t, and how to make this life work. She is so excited to support you by sharing some of what she’s learned over the years.

Yoga for Resilient, Embodied Well-Being with Nicole Marcia (Summer 2017) (no drop-ins) CAD$80.65Purchase required to enroll

Yoga can support us to feel more at home in our bodies and calmer and more confident in the world. How and why does yoga work? How can we integrate what we experience in practice into our lives? How do our bodies and emotions inform one another?

Join yoga therapist and teacher trainer Nicole Marcia for part I of this interactive class series exploring how yoga and mindfulness may support our ability to thrive emotionally and in turn contribute to the well-being of our communities and beyond.

Each class will focus on aspects of personal and social health and will include education, reflection and integration through a gentle, all -levels yoga practice. Students will learn simple, body-based, self-regulation techniques to support resilience and a sense of agency in their bodies and will be better equipped to manage stress, trauma, depression and anxiety. This class series provides a space for personal inquiry and illumination for anyone who would like to tap into their own emotional, resilient beings.

This trauma informed class will emphasize internal experience, choice making and moving safely together from a supported place of embodied empathy and attunement. No hands-on assists will be offered in this class. Beginners are welcome.
